Our Mission

The Matthews Museum of Maine Heritage has as its purpose the presentation of interesting programs and exhibits for the education of the public and preservation of antiquities relating to the history of Maine culture since colonial times.

The Museum is located in the Union Fairgrounds, on Common Road in Union, Maine. The Museum is open from July through August.

Referred to as "the area's best-kept secret", the Museum has been acclaimed as one of New England's finest museums with something of interest for everyone .  The Museum houses over 10,000 artifacts covering lifestyles in the 18th century, including carriages, agricultural tools, musical instruments, books, collections of photo prints and a research library.

It also houses a sizeable collection of Moxie memorabilia, occupying, among other things, the new annex, at the west end of the museum.
